Letter from VP of Membership

Letter from VP of Membership

To interested members,

Welcome to the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi! My name is Amber Grant and I am the current Vice President of Membership of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi at Syracuse University. I would like to formally welcome you to our chapter’s site. As the oldest and largest professional business fraternity in the United States and abroad, Alpha Kappa Psi has been recognized as the premier developer of principled business leaders. As a member of the Executive Board for Fall 2018, I, along with the remainder of the Executive Board and the organization’s Brothers, strive not to be the exception to this premise. As Brothers, we believe and seek to live by the values of Brotherhood, Knowledge, Integrity, Service and Unity in our thoughts, actions and words. We have built our network, both domestically and internationally, with the foundational blocks of these core values and strive to better ourselves in current and future interactions.

I joined Alpha Kappa Psi because I sought a campus community that would provide me with the resources and skills to become a better professional, broaden my horizons, expand my network, and improve my leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Since becoming a Brother of Alpha Kappa Psi, I have gained all of that and more; Alpha Kappa Psi has developed me professionally, personally, and given me some of my best friends.

If you are interested in joining the Syracuse University Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, I invite you to come to our recruitment events, meet and mingle with current Brothers, research our Fraternity’s guiding principles and ask questions on topics you hope to learn more about. Regardless of major, class standing or outside interest, there is a place for you in the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi.

Join us and learn what Alpha Kappa Psi could mean for you. I hope to see you at this semester’s recruitment events and encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Amber Grant

Q: Why should I join AKPsi?

A: Alpha Kappa Psi is recognized as the oldest and largest professional business fraternity in the nation. Equipping tomorrow’s leaders with the skills and resources to succeed in any career field, Alpha Kappa Psi brings together a large variety of people who strive on professionalism. This organization brings hands on experience in leadership, professionalism, and networking to your college experience and prepare you for your future career.

Q: Why did you join AKPsi?

A: Every brother decides to join Alpha Kappa Psi for their own reasons. Many will say they love our professional network and unending support from brothers, but there is not just “one” reason to join. You are encouraged to come to as many of our rush events as possible to learn more from the brothers and ask them.

Q: Do I have to be a business major to join AKPsi?

A: No, Alpha Kappa Psi is open to all majors. Many of our brothers are in the business school, but learning about professionalism and networking is critical to all majors and career fields. Our members are pursuing a variety of career options, but our drive to be successful and professional creates unity in our organization.

Q: How much of a time commitment is AKPsi?

A: There are mandatory requirements during the intern process, including attendance at weekly meetings and events. At times, it can be difficult, but you will get as much out of it as you are willing to put into it. What you learn during this process will help you grow your resources, professional network, and leadership skills.

Q: What is the difference between Alpha Kappa Psi and Delta Sigma Pi?

A: Both organizations are business professional fraternities and each provides a unique experience for their members. A key difference is that Alpha Kappa Psi is open to ALL majors. We believe that professionalism and a keen business sense is important no matter what subject you are studying or what career you intend to pursue.

Q: What do my grades have to be to join AKPsi? Will it stall my academic success?

A: In Alpha Kappa Psi, we take pride in our academics. It is a priority that our members maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Our Pledge Education Program is designed so that our potential members successfully excel in their academics during their transition into the brotherhood.

Q: Can I Attempt The Recruitment Process more than once?

A: Absolutely! We actually encourage it. We offer rush in both the fall and spring semesters. Many brothers have rushed more than once, and it does not penalize you in joining our organization in any way.
